An 11-year-old girl has given birth to her 14-year-old brother's baby. The girl gave birth at Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia, south east Spain last Friday, February 2nd, 2018.

According to Mirror UK report, The new mum was impregnated by her brother when he was only 13. The girl, who is originally from Bolivia, had no idea she was pregnant and neither did her family. She was admitted to hospital with "stomach pains" but it turned out she was about to have her baby.

Both mum and baby are said to be "doing well". Shortly after the birth hospital authorities alerted police and social services to investigate the circumstances of the pregnancy.

In 2013 Spain raised the age of consent from 13 to 16 but an exception is made if the sex is consensual when the boy is of similar age or stage of development and maturity. Because of the young age of the boy, charges are unlikely to be made unless the sex was non-consensual.

The Minister of Health of Murcia, Manuel Villegas, said the case was "exceptional". DNA tests will be carried out on the baby to verify who the father is.
