A man identified as Donal Bradley has returned home to Buncrana in Co Donegal, after spending two weeks in hospital with Covid-19.

The 65-year-old spent some weeks on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit of University Hospital Galway, but he was permitted to go home on Friday morning.

"He is very weak and tired, but he is glad to be home in his own bed", His daughter Julie said.

Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, she said his recovery has given the town a much needed boost.

"It's a close community. We turned the corner into where we live and everybody was standing there with banners, he got a great welcome. It was a great boost and it gave everyone in the town a boost as well".

She had a few "particularly bad days" during her father's time in hospital and that she, her mother and her sister had to self isolate. Ms Bradley said.

"It was very hard, probably the hardest week ever", she added.

"We were distraught as a family. There was a lot of support in the small town that we're in, friends, family and colleagues", she said.

Ms Bradley paid tribute to the doctors and nurses that treated her father, saying they looked after him "extremely well".
