Canadian rapper Houdini shot dead at 21, two others injured in Toronto shooting

Canadian rapper Houdini, whose real name is Dimarjio Antonio Jenkins shot dead at age 21 on Tuesday evening outside a hotel in the downtown area of Toronto.

A 27-year-old woman and a boy, 15, were also injured in the shooting but are expected to recover.

Toronto Police believe it was targeted shooting after gunfire broke out outside the hotel sometime after 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders labelled the shooting as “very brazen” and revealed cops responded to reports of gunfire.

Reacting to the shooting, The Toronto police chief Mark Saunders said:

“It turns out the suspect vehicle, based on the evidence we have right now, was waiting for about forty minutes for the occupants of another vehicle to arrive to their vehicle.

He continued: “When they did, the suspect vehicle made a U-turn, came out, and started firing at this group of individuals.”

“This was very brazen, this offence that took place,” he said.

Saunders called the shooting a “very solvable” case given the amount of evidence gathered thus far.

A firearm was reportedly recovered from the scene and police are appealing for people with information to come forward.

On Tuesday night, many fans and friends of Houdini took to their social media platforms to mourn the loss of the Toronto rapper.

Toronto rapper, Tory Lanez who worked with Houdini, wrote on Instagram: “I’m trying, and I can’t fight the tears from falling… “I can’t even find the words for a speech right now .. YALL TOOK MY F***ING N**** AND ALL HE WANTED TO DO WAS LIVE !!!!!! #RIP Houdini 4 Ever!”

The late rapper, Houdini grew up in Brampton, Ont., and he was one of the most-streamed independent Canadian rappers, with 9.2 million plays on Spotify in 2019.
