White woman calls NYPD on a black man, saying 'there's an African-American man threatening my life' after he asked her to put her dog on a leash (Video)

A viral video shows a white woman been caught on camera calling cops and telling them an African American man was threatening her life after he apparently asked her to put her dog on a leash in New York's Central Park.

On Monday, the video of the incident - which occured just after 8 a.m., has sparked outrage on social media platforms, with comments alleging the woman made a false report to police, putting the black man's life in danger.

No one was arrested, no crime was found to be committed, and police aren’t investigating further. When police arrived, the man was gone, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

The video was posted on Twitter by a woman who said her brother recorded the footage, and it has since been viewed almost 20 million times.

The woman identified as Melody Cooper, captioned the video:

Oh, when Karens take a walk with their dogs off leash in the famous Bramble in NY’s Central Park, where it is clearly posted on signs that dogs MUST be leashed at all times, and someone like my brother (an avid birder) politely asks her to put her dog on the leash.

Her brother, Christian Cooper, who recorded the video with his iPhone, also posted it on his Facebook page.

The video portrays a wooded part of the park called the Ramble. The woman identified as Amy Cooper, who is wearing a mask and appears to be alone with her dog, walks up to Christian Cooper and says, "Sir, I’m asking you to stop."

He replies, "Please don’t come close to me," and backs away. She says, "Sir I’m asking you to stop recording me."

The woman then said to him: "I’m taking a picture and calling the cops."

When he repeats, “Please call the cops,” she then replies: "I’m going to tell them there’s an African-American man threatening my life.”

He says, “Please tell them whatever you like."

She then appears to makes a 911 call in front of him, saying: "I’m sorry. I’m in the Ramble and there’s a man, an African-American, he has a bike helmet, he’s recording me and threatening me and my dog," she say in the phone call, her voice trembling. "There is an African-American man, I am in Central Park. He is recording me and threatening myself and my dog. I’m sorry, I can’t hear you either. I’m being threatened y a man in the Ramble. Please send the cops immediately!"

The woman’s dog starts running and jumping around her during the call, and she grabs it by the collar to subdue it. When she puts a leash on the pooch, he says, "Thank you."

Melody and Christian Cooper did not return messages seeking comment Monday night.

On Monday night, a firm for which the woman is believed to work, Franklin Templeton, tweeted a statement that she had been placed on administrative leave while they investigate the incident. In addition, the dog rescue organization in which she was involved, Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel, said on its Facebook page she had “voluntarily surrendered” the rescue dog.
