Glee star Naya Rivera's body recovered from California lake

A body found Monday morning at lake in California has been identified as the missing Glee star Naya Rivera, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office say.

The 33-year-old actress went missing on Wednesday after going boating with her four-year-old son at Lake Piru. He was found alone and asleep on the boat.

The child told rescuers he and his mother had gone into the water to swim, but she did not get back on the boat. He told investigators he then looked back and saw her disappear under the surface of the water. One life jacket was found on the boat and the boy was wearing another.

Divers and teams using sonar equipment found the body earlier on Monday.

Her body was found floating in the northeast area of the lake where the water is between 35 and 60 feet deep Monday, after a six-day search.

Rivera played singing cheerleader Santana Lopez for six seasons from 2009 to 2015 on the Fox television musical-comedy Glee.

She is the third among the major cast members from the show to die in their 30s.

Rivera married fellow actor Ryan Dorsey - who is the father of her son. When the couple divorced in 2018, they were granted joint custody.
